100 Word Challenge: The Writer’s Life

A blank screen taunted her. As she waited for an idea paralysis overtook her body. Fingers no longer moved. Her eyes locked onto the white, empty Word document. Shallow breaths escaped, reminding her of the shallowness of her current state.

She tapped a key, then backspace. She couldn’t get comfortable. Maybe she needed a new desk or chair. She migrated to the couch and nestled her laptop on her lap. Jumping up she grabbed coffee that had been resting in the carafe for a day. She sipped it cold and browsed around her sparse studio. This was the writer’s life.

I know it happens, becoming intimidated by the blank screen or page, but I don’t know that I’ve ever just stared. I’ve done tons of backspacing. My backspace button has been rubbed out to read, “bo…pace,” which rhymes with slowww pace. :) Nice work writing about that experience!

    • Haha!! That seriously cracks me up! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written anything. I was feeling so crummy about my lack of progress yesterday morning I forced myself to do something. LOL
