Tips to enjoy this week’s Agent Tweets:
- Grab some coffee
- Ensure you’re wearing fuzzy socks
- Curl up on the couch, preferably with a cat or dog if you have one
- Grab your laptop, smartphone, or tablet and begin reading
@jawlitagent “The more antiquated words, the better? Uh-uh. An overly florid style in a contemporary novel is a turn off. (At least for me.) #querytip”
@trydzinski “TELLING me what I will feel when I read your work leads me to believe that your ms will be full of telling instead of showing, too #querytip”
@jennybent “#querytip Have at least two people you trust proof your query. It’s so easy to let those typos/errors slip by!”
@MsMariaVicente “Don’t begin your query with a cliché. It will only attract attention in the form of an eye roll and immediate doubt. #QueryTip #InternTweet”
@gordonwarnock “If you’ve sold X copies of your self-pub “without really promoting,” it tells me you don’t promote your work. #querytip”
@jawlitagent “A rejection doesn’t necessarily mean that your MS isn’t good enough. Most of the time it’s just not right for ME. #querytip”
@Cforde_litagent “Please don’t direct me to your website and invite me to “find out more” or “read more” I’m so not going to click on that. #QueryTip”
@suddenlyjen “Today’s #querytip: if an agent wanted to give you revision directions, they would have said so in their rejection (or signed you.) (1 of 2)”
@suddenlyjen “So please, please, don’t reply to a rejection asking for specific revision directions. #querytip (2 of 2)”
@jawlitagent “No, I have NO interest in stealing your (or anyone’s) manuscript. No need to make me aware of potential legal action. #querytip”

Your reading tips convinced me to go for that second cup of coffee I’d been debating. Thanks!
Woo hoo! Yay for a second cup of coffee. Enjoy.
The potential legal action tip was hilarious.
Right? Showing an agent you’re distrustful is not the best way to start a relationship with them. LOL.
Ayesha, your posts are so great. The agents, whose advice you post, matches up with everything I’ve read and heard. It is always good to read it again. No matter how smart a person considers his or herself as a writer and author, we always need reminders. I agree with the one about cliches. I think it would be a nightmare to open a query with a cliche because you are not showing how original you are.
